Macleay Island Heritage Trail MDW T3 F3
July 31 @ 6:55 am - 12:00 pm
We’ll meet at the Redland Bay Sealink passenger terminal at 6.45AM ready to catch the 6.55AM ferry arriving on Macleay Island at 7.08AM. We’ll have a quick coffee at the Blue Parrot Café and start walking by 7.45AM. We should complete the walk by midday. Return ferries run every 20 -30 minutes. We will walk about halfway up the island excluding Perulpa Island, this should result in the walk being approx 15km. Starting at the ferry jetty in the south of the island and walking in a clockwise direction. The entire Heritage Trail is about 24km, well signed and can be entered and left at any point. Walking the trail we can explore the heritage of the Island (evidence of both Aboriginal and European early occupants); as well as the flora and fauna of the island. Macleay Island is part of an internationally recognised wetland and migratory bird habitat of Moreton Bay and hosts several rare and threatened species.
The best place to find a park is at the Moores Road Carpark.
