For safety we will limit this event to 6. This walk is for fit experienced members, the route is steep and very challenging with a deceptively short 6klm distance, and an elevation gain of over 600m, plus there is some scrambling.
The view from Mt Maroon summit on a clear full-moon night reveals expansive scenery bathed in silver light. Mt Maroon is a 964m volcanic peak adjacent to well-known Mt Barney. It is part of the McPherson Range of mountains in the Scenic Rim. Mt Maroon is achievable by a fit and determined hiker and takes 5-7hrs return. This expedition may take a little longer as we slow down to negotiate the gully and summit areas in moon light.
We will make arrangements to car pool , when we have numbers. Some members may prefer to camp at Mt Barney Lodge.
Bring day gear, water, poles, warm clothes, head torch, spare batteries and food
Please note you will be waitlisted.
We reserve the right to cancel due to the weather so check meetup on the day.

Moonrise is at 6pm
