Bribie Island: Bongaree to Woorim via Red Beach (RECCE)
Please Note
Waitlist if interested in attending
Relatively late start time is due to the tidal conditions. High Tide is 8.15am
One way beach walk. Plan is to drive to Woorim in 2 cars, park one car at the surf club car park, then drive back to Bongaree, leave the 2nd car at the southern end of South Esplanade and start walking at approx 9.30am south towards Red Beach, following the beach around the southern end of Bribie Island back to Woorim.
As we have not walked all of the distance before, and in light of likely erosion from cyclone Alfred, we’re not sure if we’ll have good access along the beach all along the way. We may have to go slightly inland if there are places where we can’t follow the beach. Inland is mostly swampy melaleuca wetlands so be prepared to get wet shoes. It is also possible that we may have to backtrack altogether and return to the car. Or it may be a pleasant beach walk. Estimated distance is about 14km. Could be bit less, shouldn’t be much more.
Since this walk is a recce and may include off track sections this walk is not suitable for everyone. Please waitlist if interested but don’t be offended if you’re not accepted. If our recce is successful we will do a repeat of this walk another time with more people.
Max. Group Size: 5
