EWEN MADDOCK DAM AND TUNNEL WALK DULARCHA NATIONAL PARK DW2B

May 2 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

Ewen Maddock Dam and Tunnel Walk in Dularcha National Park

Two walks combined in one event. Note you might get wet feet!
Bring usual day walk gear and you must be prepared to get your shoes wet, you will also need a change of clothes for the drive home

First walk: Ewen Maddock Dam Main Trail. This is a 9km, one way walk along wide, fairly well signed tracks with water views for part of the way. Because it’s a one-way walk we will need to do a car shuffle. Easy walking, some undulation, but no great ups and downs. We finish off with a section of boardwalk near the main picnic area.

We will have an early lunch at the end of the walk, enjoying the beautiful picnic area overlooking the dam.

After lunch we drive just a few kms to the start of our second walk.

Our second walk is in Dularcha National Park and is a 2km return walk on easy terrain (4km all up).

Dularcha is QLD’s 7th national park, proclaimed in 1921 and it’s tiny. At the time, rail travel was very popular and it was the intention to declare a series of small, scenic parks at intervals all the way along the North Coast Rail Line. Only 4 parks were ever gazetted and Dularcha is one of them.

Our walk takes us on an easy track to an old tunnel built for the original railway line. We will walk through the tunnel (100m) and keep an eye out for the bats that live there. Bring a torch.
We will return the way we came.
