Gibraltar Washpool World Heritage Walk TW 5C
Please waitlist for this event.

13 – 17 September 2025

The Gibraltar-Washpool World Heritage Walk is a 45km multiday hike in Gibraltar Range National Park and Washpool National Park, and leads through eucalypt forests, rainforests, wetlands and granite tors in the rugged Northern Tablelands of NSW. It is situated roughly between Glen Innes and Grafton, and about 420km from the Redlands.

For more information on this walk check out https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/walking-tracks/gibraltarwashpool-world-heritage-walk

We would like to encourage newer members who are still somewhat new to thru walking, or members who haven’t done it in a while, to sign up for this walk. Whilst we’ll be walking 4 days, we’ll need to carry our pack for only 3 of them, and with 45km the distance of this walk is also somewhat manageable, so it seems a good one to start with. We haven’t done this walk ourselves yet but it looks great.

Campsites have water(must be treated) and drop toilets. As per usual through walks you will need to be self sufficient, bring your own everything. Mulligans campsite has showers so we can start and end our walk feeling refreshed.

Should there be much interest in this walk, there is the option to double the maximum group size to 12 if another leader would be willing to take a 2nd group and do the walk in the other direction (i.e. anticlockwise). At the time of publishing campsites were still available to do this.

Day 1 (Sat 13/9): drive to Mulligan’s Campground, set up camp, then do The Needles walking track (6km return), with the option to combine this with the Tree Fern Forest walk (12km combined) depending on how much time we have left in the day.

Day 2: (Sun 14/9): Mulligans Campground to Boundary Falls (17.3km, 5.5 hours). Optional side trip: Dandahra Crags

Day 3: (Mon 15/9) Boundary Falls to Coombadjha Campground (17.1km, 6.5 hours). Optional side trips: Lyrebird Falls (at campground), Duffer Falls, Coombadjha Walk

Day 4 (Tue 16/9): Coombadjha to Mulligan’s (10.1km). We plan to stay in accommodation somewhere on Tuesday night and enjoy a pub meal, so we don’t drive home tired from our hike.

Day 5 (Wed 17/9): Drive back to the Redlands

Costs: camp fees $18.45pp, vehicle pass $22 per car ($17 for seniors), fuel, plus accommodation and dinner Tuesday night. Fuel and vehicle pass costs to be shared by the people travelling in each car.

We will take care of booking the camping permits. Once you have been accepted on the hike, we will ask you to pay us your camp fees to confirm your spot. If you have to pull out and someone else is taking your spot, you’ll receive a refund. If no one takes your spot, you may or may not be entitled to a partial refund of your camping fee as per the NSW Park cancellation policy.
