Kayak Rescue Practice Session KAK

November 1 @ 8:15 am - 10:15 am

Kayaking Rescue Practice Session at Wellington Point KAK

Friday 1 Nov 8.15 – 10.15am
Kayaking rescue practice session off the beach at Wellington Point. Capsizes may not happen a lot, but they do happen from time to time, and you may find yourself in the water before you even realise what has happened. Knowing how to handle such a situation is an important skill for anyone going out in a kayak.

This session is aimed at anyone who would like to come on one of my paddles. We’ll have a swim with our lifejackets on first before we move onto rolling the boats, falling into the water and trying to get back in. We’ll do this both without assistance from another kayaker (i.e. self-rescue), as well as with the help of another kayaker (assisted rescue), as the techniques used are different.

Be prepared to get very wet. Bring dry clothes to change into afterwards (leave in your car). Don’t bring anything that you don’t want to get wet, or be prepared to leave it on the beach while we’re in the water. Bring a water bottle and a snack – both to be left on the beach, so pack it in a way that birds can’t get to it. Wear sun protective clothing and sunscreen.

By signing up for this activity you acknowledge that there are sharks, stonefish and other potential dangers in the waters of Moreton Bay where the session will be held, and accept that you’re entering the water at your own risk.

Maximum number of people for this event is 8 including myself and Judy. Join the waitlist to be accepted. BYO kayak, paddle and PFD. Club members who did not do the session last year will get priority over members who have done it before.
