Lower Bellbird Track + Lower Ballanjui Falls, Binna Burra. DW M 3 C

October 26 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm

This lovely rainforest track at Binna Burra has been closed for some time and has now been recently re-opened. Approx 12km long from the lower day-use area at Binna Burra to the road near the information centre, on mostly graded tracks with some rougher rocky sections that are a little uneven underfoot, and a few sections of the track have fairly steep drop-offs beside them. We will be walking through alternating rainforest and more open regenerating forest, with a couple of lookouts and morning tea at a shady waterfall.

Since this is a one-way track we would ideally do a car-shuffle, meeting at the day-use area and leaving a car at the info centre a short way back down the road where the walk ends. If we only have one car however, we’ll start at the info centre and walk back up the road to the day-use area to start the walk, adding 1.7km.

We will begin the Lower Bellbird Track which starts from Binna Burra’s lower carpark, following the same track that the Shipstern begins with. We follow this track steadily downhill to Nixon’s Creek, and at the junction will turn off on a side track that leads to the beautiful Lower Ballunjui Falls (approx 5km from start, probably 10:30 – 11am). We will have morning tea here and then make our way back uphill to the junction, and continue on the Lower Bellbird Track along the base of the escarpment. The track is undulating, winding in and out of cool green gullies and into open regenerating forest, before a final steeper climb up a hill back to the main road. There is a short 5 minute walk up the bitumen road to the information centre where the walk will end (car shuffle back to main carpark).
Optional – refreshments at Binna Burra teahouse before our return home. (or bring own lunch to have at picnic tables if you prefer).

Bring – usual daywalk gear including plenty of water, boots, morning tea/snacks, insect repellent, warm jumper, raincoat, etc. Poles may be helpful on rougher parts of track. Change of clothes if travelling in someone else’s car. Cash/cards if you wish to purchase refreshments at the tea-house.

IMPORTANT – please advise if you need a lift, can offer a lift, or will drive yourself, and please advise if you can assist with a car shuffle.
Note that the leader does not have your contact details and will be relying on you to indicate in the comments section below if you need a lift! (or message me on number below).
