Montserrat Peak day walk – DW M 5 C/D

This walk is waitlisted. When signing up you will be automatically placed on a waitlist, and when accepted will move to ‘Going’ list. Total attendee limit is 10 people.

This is one of the options for the Mt Barney base-camp Saturday. A moderate walk up to Montserrat Peak with good views of Mt Barney and surrounds, 8km return with a vertical gain of 660m, should take approx 6 hours. This walk will involve some off-track sections, and navigation will be required. Once we have reached the peak there are several different options for the return back down, and some sections may be a bit steep.

We will need 4WD vehicles to get to the starting point at Cleared Ridge, Waterfall Creek Rd (approx 20min drive from camp) – possibly 2 or more depending on how many participants we have.

Carpooling arrangements can be made at the Mt Barney camp between participants, and we plan to leave the campground at 7:30-8am. If you wish to join this day-walk and will not be camping, please contact the leaders in advance (note we will not have phone reception once we are at the campground).

Bring – water, lunch and snacks, hat, sturdy boots and the usual daywalking gear. Poles not essential but may be helpful.
