Morelia and Greenes Falls Tracks, Mt Glorious (DW M 2 B)

Two short and relatively easy walks in the Mt Glorious area, D’Aguilar NP with a combined total of 11km. It may seem like a late starting time, but I’m attempting to avoid the worst of weekday peak-hour traffic and the weekend Mt Glorious crowds!

We will meet first at Manorina trailhead, where the Morelia track begins, to start walking at 10:30am. (note no toilets at Manorina – recommend stopping at Jolly’s Lookout on the way). This track is 6km long with a steady gentle uphill to a viewpoint over Samford Valley, returning on much the same track (with a small side loop). We’ll be walking through mostly shaded rainforest and eucalpt forest, with also some nice cabbage tree palms along the way. We’ll expect to take 2 – 2.5hr, including a rest/snack stop at the viewpoint.

When we complete this track, we’ll drive 8km/10min up the road to Maiala picnic area and have lunch there (bring lunch!). After lunch we’ll do the Greenes Falls track which starts from this picnic ground (5km, allowing 2hr), and returns partly along the same track with a few small side-loops on the Cypress Grove and Rainforest Circuits. We will be walking through some beautiful rainforest and downhill beside a creek to the falls, with some boardwalk sections – be prepared for an uphill trudge on the way back!

Bring your usual day walk gear – plenty of water and comfortable shoes, snacks to bring on walks and lunch to have in Maiala picnic ground, insect repellent, umbrella/jacket in case of showers, and a change of clothes if carpooling.
