Night paddle on Lota Creek, starting from (and finishing at) the boat ramp at the end of Railway Parade, Thorneside.
We will cross Tingalpa creek and make our way up Lota Creek. Lota creek is a lovely winding creek and is fairly sheltered from strong winds. If skies are clear we should have significant moonlight to light the way. We will return the way we came, or, if conditions allow, return via Tingalpa Creek and a short section of bay. Total distance approx. 7km, or 8.5km if we go back the long way
BYO kayak, paddle and PFD. It is a club requirement that PFDs must be worn. Wear protective footwear, there could be stonefish in the creek. Allround white light must be fitted behind the cockpit (behind, so the light doesn’t blind you). LUCI solar lights are suitable for this purpose, or you can buy a cheap camping light at BCF or similar store and attach that to your boat. Duct tape can be pretty handy for this, no need to buy an expensive light with suction caps if you’re only going to use it once. No light = no go. An additional head torch can be useful.
Experienced kayakers only. A waitlist system applies. Contact me on 0421 272 216 if you have not paddled with me before. Maximum group size is 6.
This is a fair weather event, check comments in Meetup closer to the date for the latest information. Start time of 6.30pm is when we aim to be on the water, so arrive earlier to unload your boat etc.
