Redland Bushwalkers
This walk starts from Sunshine Beach and enters the Noosa National Park from the southern end. It takes us mostly along the established coastal walking track, over headlands, along beaches and through coastal woodlands with opportunities to encounter the flora, fauna and geology of the Park, including marine life, wildflowers, birds and unique rock formations. It is the second activity in a planned three day escape to the Sunshine Coast with other events posted separately on Meetup for Wednesday and Friday. Choose just one day’s activity or come up for 2 or 3 days and find your own overnight accommodation that suits you. The walk is about 12km with a total 240m of undulating elevation gain. We travel via Alexandria Bay, Hells Gate, and the usually sheltered Granite and Tea Tree Bays where swimming may be possible if it is safe. The walk ends in Noosa Heads at Massimo’s Gelateria for a welcome reward, and we then take the bus back to Sunshine Beach, where we can enjoy a late lunch/early dinner at the Surf Club, before heading home or to local accommodation. Be sure to bring your Go Card for the bus.
We will meet at the Sunshine Beach Surf Club and park cars in adjacent streets or parking areas, though not in the Club parking lot. Bring all the necessary day walk items as per the Club’s checklist, including plenty of water and food (morning tea and lunch), sturdy footwear and hiking poles if you use them. Also, a change of clothes and shoes if you are carpooling in someone else’s vehicle. Or other appropriate gear if you are staying overnight.
For safety and comfort reasons, this is a fair weather event so please regularly check the messages on the event Meetup site for any changes or other advice. I will already be up the Coast at this time, house sitting for friends in Buderim, so for those who commit to accommodation we will still do something together appropriate to the weather conditions at the time.
Carpooling from the Redlands will be directly coordinated by the leader prior to the event, and the departure time will need to be about 6am – details to be confirmed.
