Norman Creek Paddle KAK
Saturday 26th April 7.30am until 10.30am
Heath Park Canoe Ramp, Hilton Street, East Brisbane
Maximum group size is 6
Please waitlist for this event
This paddle is about leisurely exploring Norman Creek by kayak. BYO kayak. No boat hire available.
The canoe launch area consists of a platform, so getting in and out of your boat is from/onto this platform. If you’re uncomfortable to exit onto a platform there’s an unused ramp as well if needed. Ideally we all use the platform as this is the intended entry and exit point provided by council.
From our launch point we’ll make our way upstream on the incoming tide, following the creek as it meanders around the Churchie school grounds. We’ll pass a bat colony along the way. There’s an ibis colony too but I’m not sure there’ll be birds around during the day this time of year. Ibis may be considered bin chickens, but in their natural habitat they are not quite as off-putting.
We will turn around at the Main Avenue bridge in Stones Corner, or earlier if we run out of water sooner. We will return along the same way.
We’ll have morning tea/lunch at the park after we finish paddling.
BYO kayak, paddle and PFD, as well as morning tea, water, hat and sunscreen. It is a club requirement that every paddler wears a PFD whilst on the water.
Parking near the canoe launch can be somewhat limited. You can usually drive up to the launch area to unload your boat, then move your car once you’re done and park somewhere nearby hopefully.
