Sunshine Coast 3 Peaks DW S 4 C

This walk involves hiking up three minor, though spectacular, peaks in the Sunshine Coast hinterland in one day. It is the first activity in a planned three day escape to the Sunshine Coast with other events posted separately on Meetup for Thursday and Friday. Choose just one day’s activity or come up for 2 or 3 days and find your own overnight accommodation that suits you. On this day we will first climb Mt Coolum (3.5km distance/180m elevation) traversing from the western back track and descending the eastern tourist track. We then move on to Mt Ninderry (3km/180m) with a coffee break first in Yandina. The final peak is Mt Cooroora at Pomona (2.6km/307m), short and steep but not technical and offering one of the best scenic viewpoints in the whole region. Lunch will be on the summit, or there are options in Pomona if you prefer, once we descend.

We will meet at the normal Mt Coolum parking lot on the eastern side and then organise the car shuttle to the start of the western track. We will carpool from here for the remainder of the day’s travel and return to Coolum at the end of the day. This will be late afternoon and people can proceed from here back home or to their accommodation. For those staying we may organise dinner together somewhere.

Bring all the necessary day walk items as per the Club’s checklist, including plenty of water and food (morning tea and lunch), sturdy footwear and hiking poles if you use them. Also, a change of clothes and shoes if you are carpooling in someone else’s vehicle. Or other appropriate gear if you are staying overnight.

For safety and comfort reasons, this is a fair weather event so please regularly check the messages on the event Meetup site for any changes or other advice. I will already be up the Coast at this time, house sitting for friends in Buderim, so for those who commit to accommodation we will still do something together appropriate to the weather conditions at the time.

Carpooling from the Redlands will be directly coordinated by the leader prior to the event, and the departure time will need to be about 6am – details to be confirmed.
