This walk is part of the Girraween Base camp. We will drive from Castle rock camping area to the stone gate on Mt Norman Road (taking as few vehicles as possible as parking is limited). From there we walk a fire trail to the base of the rock, the first 1 km is uphill to the abandoned stone cottage then its fairly easy walking from there for the next 4 km to the base of the rock. There are a couple of places where you can get onto the rock and start the scramble up it, so there might be a bit of searching around while we locate the best place to start. After that its a fairly steep climb to the top and we will need dry conditions as it will be too slippery if wet. From the top there is a great view of nearby Middle rock and South Bald rock.
We return the same way, total walk is approximately 11 km and 380m of elevation gain. Don’t be put off thinking you might not be able to manage the scramble up the rock, if you get to a point where you don’t want to go any further you can just sit tight there and we will collect you on our way back down.
